| Key of E Minor Chords, Part 3: “The Cup of Tea” Basic Backup |
In this video, John shows you a basic chord progression to accompany “The Cup of Tea.” He begins by reviewing the basic mechanics of playing in his style, then he walks you through a set of chords that support the melody, using chords you reviewed in the first section of this lesson. He also shows you a few alternative fingerings for some of the chords. Note that although the tune is nominally in E minor, both the B and C parts are mostly in D major. John plays his chords over the melody several times and then plays the chords without the tune.
