“Will the Circle Be Unbroken” comes from the Carter Family and is one of the most well-known bluegrass and old-time country songs. As with the last couple of lessons, you’ll learn to create a melody-based solo to “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” in the key of D using the L shapes, arpeggios, and double stops. Sharon shows you how to harmonize the melody with double stops in this video.

Banks of the Ohio, Part 3: Ricky Skaggs Solo |
Ricky Skaggs’s solo on “Banks of the Ohio” is based out of the same closed positions you’re been learning, but it introduces a few new things, including a new double-stop extension and tremolo based on triplets. Skaggs’s solo starts with double stops and tremolo, so Sharon shows you the double stops and talks about the timing of Skaggs’s triplet-based tremolo before walking you through the rest of the solo.
