Rocky Road Blues, Part 1: Bluegrass-Style Solo
In this lesson, you’ll learn a couple of different ways to play the blues on bluegrass and simple swing tunes, using Bill Monroe’s “Rocky Road Blues.” Both solos use a blues scale that includes both the minor and major thirds and the flatted seventh. The entire scale is 1, b3, 3, 4, 5, 6, b7. Scott starts by playing the bluegrass-style solo based on the melody of “Rocky Road Blues” and then walks you through it phrase by phrase.
