Huckleberry Hornpipe, Part 1: A Melody
The great Texas bluegrass fiddler Byron Berline’s tune “Huckleberry Hornpipe” has become a flatpicker’s favorite, in part because of Clarence White’s classic solo on the original recording, Country Gazette’s 1973 album Don’t Give Up Your Day Job. This record is out of print, but you can hear the recording of “Huckleberry Hornpipe” here. You’ll learn both the fiddle melody and Clarence’s solo in this lesson. Scott starts by playing the fiddle melody all the way through, and then breaks it down slowly, phrase by phrase. You’ll learn the A part melody in this video.
