“Cherokee Trail” was written by old-time banjo player and fiddler John Herrmann, and was featured on Songs from the Mountain, a recording inspired by the movie and book written by Charles Frazier and recorded with Tim O’Brien and Dirk Powell. The first part of “Cherokee Trail” is in the key of G, while the second part moves to E minor.
