Intro to DADGAD Tuning, Part 3: Minor Keys
You can also use DADGAD to play in minor keys. A particularly useful one is to play using D minor shapes with the capo at the second fret, so the guitar sounds in E minor. Flynn shows you how to play “The Drunken Landlady,” which you already learned in E minor without a capo in dropped-D tuning, using D5, C, and G chords with a capo at the second fret. To practice backing up tunes using DADGAD, you can use the same chord charts and Play-Along Tracks you used for tunes in D major (“The Rambling Pitchfork,” “The Tulla Reel,”), D modal (“Famous Ballymote,” “Garrett Barry’s”), E minor (“Morrison’s Jig”), and D minor (“The Broken Pledge”).
