“Long Journey Home,” Key of G, Part 1: Transposing to G |
In the key of G, the I chord is GBD, the IV chord is CEG and the V chord is DF#A. Lauren points out that you can recycle your hand shapes for the melody from the key of D’s higher octave and move them over a string. You’ll also work through the melody in a higher octave, to claim a different ‘sonic real estate’ territory from the vocalist. Lauren also discusses octave displacement, the technique of moving a part of the melody to a new octave for any given reason—in this case, ease of playing!
