Scales and Chords, Part 1: Major Scales

In this basic music theory lesson, Chad shows you how scales and chords are constructed so you can find them in any key. He starts by showing you how the major scale is constructed: a series of whole steps and half steps with the sequence whole-whole-half-whole-whole-whole-half. If you know this sequence you can find a major scale in any key by starting on the root of the key. He shows you handy fingering patterns on the fiddle and points out that major scales are symmetrical on the fiddle: the first four notes have the same sequence as notes five to eight (root). Then Chad plays G, D, and A major scales slowly so you can practice your scales along with him.
