“Blackberry Blossom” and the Osborne Roll, Part 1
The fiddle tune “Blackberry Blossom” is a popular jam tune, and there are a number of ways to play it on the banjo. The first half of the tune has a lot of chords, but they’re all chords that you know, while the second half is in a minor key: E minor. Bill starts by reminding you how to fret an Em chord and then shows you a new chord: B. You’ll also use a new roll pattern to play “Blackberry Blossom,” the “middle leading” pattern, also called the “Osborne roll” after Sonny Osborne. The roll is middle, index, middle, thumb. Bill shows you the first part of “Blackberry Blossom” in this video.
