Soldier’s Joy, Part 1: Three Fiddle Versions
There are many ways to play the fiddle-tune standard “Soldier’s Joy,” some of which are so different from each other that it may be hard to know what the original tune is. In this lesson Scott shows you four ways to play “Soldier’s Joy,” a simple old-time fiddle version, a version from some old fiddle tune books, bluegrass fiddler Richard Greene’s version (recorded with Bill Monroe), and Clarence White’s classic guitar version. In this first part, Scott talks about learning to recognize and think about a fiddle tune by its shape rather than specific notes, and plays three versions of the tune.
