The bridge of “Old Gray Coat” starts with the melody of the first four bars of the tune moved to D minor and played up an octave. You can duplicate this melody exactly in D minor, but on Tony’s recording he plays a variation that Scott shows you. The second half of the bridge moves that melody to C minor and ends with a lick that gets you back to the key of E minor for a repeat of the A melody played up an octave. This final A part, however, instead of just repeating the original 16-bar part, consists of the second eight bars of the A part along with the four-bar interlude.
