Down in the Swamp, Part 2
The B part of “Down in the Swamp” includes some distinctive anticipations of the downbeat, both in the first bar, which is a typical way that old-time fiddlers will start a tune, and in the second bar. In both cases, the phrase starts on the fourth beat of the previous measure and is tied over into the first eighth note of the downbeat. Scott walks you through the melody of the B part of “Down in the Swamp” phrase by phrase, making sure you understand the syncopation/anticipation of the first two phrase. Scott also shows you the chords, giving you a couple ideas about voicings.
