Charlie Christian–Style Swing Lines, Part 2: Dominant Seventh Lines
Charlie Christian played of a lot of lines over dominant seventh chords using a familiar minor chord shape. In the key of G, this is the A minor shape at the fifth fret. This gives a lot of his dominant seven lines a iim7–V7 sound. Scott shows you nine different two- and four-bar dominant seventh lines in this video, pointing out the different arpeggios and chord tones Charlie would use and how he could create syncopated sounding phrases out of a steady stream of eighth notes by emphasizing different notes.
