Tony McManus, Part 5: Tony’s Manzer Sitar-Guitar
Tony McManus has a lot of guitars, including this custom Linda Manzer Sitar-Guitar (manzer.com). Manzer first developed the unusual instrument for jazz guitarist Pat Metheny, for whom she has built dozens of guitars, including the famous 42-string Pikasso guitar. The Sitar-Guitar gets its sitar-like buzzing tone from a unique bridge made of movable flat bone blocks, which each string rests on and vibrates against. Tony demonstrates this new unique guitar with Jacky Molard’s piece “Doina,” recorded on Tony’s Maker’s Mark album. Check out more of Tony’s music and his other guitars at tonymcmanus.com.
