Sean McGowan, Part 1: Sean Plays “On the Street Where You Live”
Sean McGowan is best known for his jazz playing. Following studies with Tuck Andress, Sean released his debut, River Coffee, in 2001, and the album of originals and standards, mostly played on a flattop steel-string, won several awards. Sean’s other recordings include 2008’s Indigo (a solo guitar recording of standards), 2011’s Sphere (featuring solo guitar arrangements of tunes by Thelonious Monk), 2014’s Christmas and Other Tidings (A collection of holiday tunes), and his 2015 release My Fair Lady, which features solo guitar arrangements of songs from the well-known musical. Sean is a dedicated educator, and is the Guitar Program Director at the University of Colorado Denver as well as a frequent guest instructor at guitar festivals and events throughout the USA. McGowan is also the author of Jazz Guitar Essentials (Stringletter/Hal Leonard). For his Advanced Fingerstyle Workshop segment, Sean teaches his approach to comping on a jazz-blues progression, and performs a couple of tunes from My Fair Lady, including his brilliant arrangements of “On the Street Where You Live” which you’ll hear in this video. seanmcgowanguitar.com
