Peppino D’Agostino, Part 1: “Mediterranean Spark”
Originally influenced by such players as Doc Watson, John Renbourn, and Leo Kottke while learning to play guitar in his native Italy, California-based guitarist Peppino D’Agostino has evolved into one of the most original and virtuosic players on the fingerstyle scene. With more than a dozen albums to his name, he is known for his percussive playing, keen sense of melody, and the incorporation of classical music elements, both in his repertoire and technique. His latest release, Penumbra, features originals as well as compositions by classical guitarists Sérgio Assad, Roland Dyens, Gyan Riley, and others (check out Peghead Nation’s review). In this video, D’Agostino plays a long-time favorite composition of his,“Mediterranean Spark,” which he first recorded for his 1988 album Spark. peppinodagostino.com
