Signature Stories: Eric Clapton | Martin Guitars

Martin's long-time artist relations coordinator Dick Boak talks about the birth of the Eric Clapton signature model.

Prior to his retirement in 2018, Dick Boak enjoyed a 40-plus year career at Martin Guitars, with much of that time spent running the company’s artist relations department. Though Martin has build signature models and custom instruments for countless guitarists, the various Eric Clapton models stand out as the most successful collaboration the company has engaged in. In this video, Dick remembers how the original Eric Clapton 000-42 signature model came about, he talks about working directly with Eric on the project, and discusses variations of the model that came after the initial run of 461 instruments.
