Luthier Preston Thompson built a guitar in 1986 for his friend, the great flatpicker Charles Sawtelle, and the guitar recently made its way back to the Thompson shop. The structure of the guitar was based on Sawtelle’s 1937 Martin D-28, though the appointments on this guitar are closer to a Martin D-42. Preston talks about his relationship with Charles and the building of this special guitar in this video.
