Tony McManus Healdsburg Guitar Retreat 2018
Peghead Nation co-founder Teja Gerken to join Celtic Guitar instructor for a weekend of guitar immersion in Healdsburg, California.
Peghead Nation Celtic Guitar instructor Tony McManus will be offering his second Healdsburg Guitar Retreat, to be held December 7 – 9 this year. Similar to his long-running series of guitar retreats near his home in Elora, Canada, this event is a great opportunity to study up close with one of the masters of traditional Celtic guitar. Held at Healdsburg’s historic Camelia Inn, the weekend will also include workshop sessions by Peghead Nation co-founder Teja Gerken, as well as presentations by legendary California luthier Jeff Traugott.
The guitar retreat is open to players of all levels who have a desire to dive into some great music, learn more about the guitar, and have the opportunity to ask lots of questions, all in an intimate and beautiful setting. Great food, wonderful camaraderie, and a public concert with Tony and Teja are included.
Tony McManus is recognized throughout the world as one of the leading guitarists in Celtic music. From early childhood, his twin obsessions of traditional music and acoustic guitar have combined to produce a startlingly original approach to this ancient art. In Tony’s hands the complex ornamentation normally associated with fiddles and pipes is accurately transferred to guitar in a way that preserves the integrity and emotional impact of the music while sounding completely suited to the guitar. In his Peghead Nation Celtic Guitar course, Tony teaches 12 complete tunes (with full transcriptions), introduces the tunings he uses, and explains his specific fingerstyle and flatpicking styles.
Peghead Nation co-founder Teja Gerken has been deeply involved with the contemporary fingerstyle guitar scene for more than 20 years. As a performer, he has shared the stage with many of the genre’s finest players, and his two CDs of solo fingerstyle tunes, On My Way and Postcards, have received international acclaim. As a former senior editor at Acoustic Guitar magazine, Teja has written extensively about guitars and guitarists, often focusing on coverage of fingerstyle and classical guitar. He has also contributed to Guitar Player, Premier Guitar, Akustik Gitarre, Fretboard Journal, and Gitarre & Bass magazines. Teja has long been an active participant in the San Francisco Bay Area’s vibrant acoustic music scene and currently divides his time between playing solo and with fellow fingerstylist Doug Young, with whom he is working on an album of duets. Teja also hosts the Advanced Fingerstyle Workshop on Peghead Nation, which includes video lessons with 15 of the finest fingerstyle guitarists around.
