We’re excited to announce a brand new course called Maybelle Carter-Style Guitar, taught by master multi-instrumentalist Cathy Fink. In this course, you’ll learn to play guitar like the legendary Maybelle Carter of the Carter Family, whose recordings are one of the backbones of the old-time country music and bluegrass repertoire and helped create the country music genre. Each lesson includes transcriptions of Maybelle’s thumb-lead style on classic songs. Cathy will be adding new lessons to the course each month. Cathy Fink is a multi-Grammy Award–winning artist, specializing in roots music. Her career includes 50 years of performing, teaching and recording, with 50 albums to her credit, 14 Grammy nominations, and 60 Washington Area Music Awards (WAMMY Awards). Cathy’s love of guitar began in the 1960s, playing pop and folk tunes, and by the 1970s included bluegrass, old-time, swing, and Celtic styles. She tours and records with her partner, Marcy Marxer, who teaches Ukulele on Peghead Nation. Cathy has taught guitar, banjo, ukulele, harmony singing, and more at numerous workshops and camps, and she is the 2021 IBMA Mentor of the Year.
