Collings OMH2 and 001MH

As an in-demand sideman and session guitarist, Peghead Nation instructor Mark Goldenberg owns a lot of guitars, and you can see many of them in our video rundown of the onstage setup he uses for performing with Hugh Laurie. His pair of recently built Collings guitars are his go-to steel-string flattops, and you’ll see him play these in his Guitar Theory course on Peghead Nation.

Goldenberg loves his OM2H for its versatility and tonal balance, and he uses the guitar for everything from solo fingerstyle gigs to studio dates and band performances, including his recent appearance at the White House with Willie Nelson in the 2014 “A Salute to the Troops” concert. The guitar has a Sitka spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides and is outfitted with L.R. Baggs Anthem electronics.

Goldenberg got his all-mahogany 12-fret 001MH primarily because he wanted a smaller guitar to carry onto airplanes and for playing in hotel rooms, etc. But the instrument’s easy playability and vintage-inspired tone have inspired him to use it in recording sessions and (with a Trance Audio Amulet M pickup system he had installed) onstage. You can see him playing the 001MH in the house band for Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, and Merle Haggard’s set at the 2014 Grammy Awards show.
