Teja Gerken: “Sage and Spirit”
A solo guitar arrangement of the Grateful Dead instrumental.
On August 13th, 2015, Grateful Dead historian and radio host David Gans curated a performance at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall marking the 40th anniversary of the Grateful Dead’s album release concert for Blues for Allah. That concert included the songs from Blues for Allah as well as others and is documented in the One From the Vault recording. The 40th-anniversary show featured Gans, Henry Kaiser, Mark Karan, Michael Manring, Roger McNamee, James Nash, and Peghead Nation Co-Founder/Producer Teja Gerken, among others, performing the album’s songs.
In this video, Teja plays the Grateful Dead instrumental “Sage and Spirit,” which he arranged specifically for the anniversary concert. The piece is played in C G D G C D tuning, with a capo at the second fret, on a Martin Custom Shop OM. For a video of the entire show, check out the Moonalice archive.
Teja hosts Peghead Nation’s Advanced Fingerstyle Workshop, where his guests include Tony McManus, Ed Gerhard, Peppino D’Agostino, Muriel Anderson, Mike Dowling, Jamie Stillway, Richard Smith, Tim Sparks, Eric Skye, and others.
