Patrick McGonigle and Brittany Haas: “Whiskey Before Breakfast”
Fiddle duet on the bluegrass jam-session favorite.
Patrick McGonigle is the fiddler with the Lonely Heartstring Band (lonelyheartstringband.com), one of the Northeast’s most popular new progressive bluegrass bands. A classically trained violinist from Victoria, British Columbia, Patrick discovered fiddle music and improvising at the age of 18. He is a Berklee College of Music graduate, and is finishing up his master’s degree at the New England Conservatory of Music. When he was in the studio to record a segment for Brittany Haas’s Fiddle Styles Workshop, in which he teaches the Bill Monroe tune “Stoney Lonesome” and talks about soloing on bluegrass tunes, he and Brittany warmed up on the fiddle favorite “Whiskey Before Breakfast.”
