Evie Ladin: “Alabama Waltz”
Our Clawhammer Banjo instructor plays a great version of a Hank Williams song in the Peghead Nation studio.
While Evie Ladin was in the Peghead Nation studio recording a batch of new lessons for her popular Clawhammer Banjo course, she treated us to this lovely version of Hank Williams’s “Alabama Waltz.” Williams recorded a demo of this song in September 1949 but didn’t release it. In March 1950, Bill Monroe recorded what would be the first release of the song (in May 1950) during a session in which he also recorded “I’m Blue, I’m Lonesome,” which credits Monroe and William together as songwriters. Since then, “The Alabama Waltz” has been recorded by many artists, including Jody Stecher and Kate Brislin, The Del McCoury Band, and Reeb Willms and Caleb Clauder. We love Evie’s take!
