Known for his gorgeous tone and thoughtful arrangements, Ed Gerhard has been a mainstay on the fingerstyle guitar scene for more than two decades. Fans who have experienced one of Gerhard’s live performances know to expect a few tunes played on a Weissenborn-style lap-slide guitar in any set, as Gerhard is one of the few players to use this instrument in a solo context.

Gerhard recently stopped by the Peghead Nation video studio to record a lesson for an upcoming segment of the Advanced Fingerstyle Workshop, and also performed his instrumental arrangement of Rowland Salley’s “Killing the Blues.” Played on a custom Breedlove guitar built in the Weissenborn style, Gerhard allows the tune to breathe, taking advantage of the slide’s haunting quality for both the single-note melody and chord structure.

Having just started with a lap steel guitar Iwas blown away by Ed and his rendition. At my age of three score years and some I found it made me near to tears

I agree with Cheryl, where can we get the tab or lessons for this beautiful song?

Ed's version of this very emotional song always causes something inside of me to be so greatly moved to tears. PLEASE -- Mr. Gerhardt, give us a Weissenborn lesson on your Killing the Blues. You are the one who said "There is a broken heart inside of each Weissenborn". I want to play this. Thank you.

I'd love to know what tuning he was using.
