Dale Russ: “The Custom Gap”
Renowned Irish fiddler teaching Peghead Nation’s new Irish Fiddle course.
Martin Hayes has called Dale Russ “one of the greatest fiddlers I know in Irish traditional music” and few who hear Dale play the fiddle would disagree. Dale has been playing Irish fiddle since his move in 1973 from his native Connecticut to Washington State, where he is now regarded as “the shining jewel of Northwest fiddle players.”
Dale has joined Peghead Nation’s illustrious staff of instructors to teach an Irish Fiddle course, in which you can learn traditional Irish fiddle with an emphasis on playing the dance music of Ireland, including jigs, reels, polkas, slip jigs, hornpipes, and more. While Dale was in the studio taping his lessons, we recorded him playing this beautiful old reel “The Custom Gap.”
