Compton and Newberry: “Death and Blues”
Mike Compton plays a powerful original song with his long-time duo partner Joe Newberry.
Mike Compton and Joe Newberry came through Peghead Nation’s hometown of San Rafael, California, last month on their West Coast tour, and played a fun set of original and traditional songs and tunes full of fine mandolin, clawhammer banjo, and acoustic guitar at Studio Fourth Street, a lovely new listening room and music space in downtown San Rafael. During the show, Compton and Newberry played this great version of “Death and Blues,” which Mike wrote with Nashville writer, instrumentalist, and teacher Thomm Jutz. Mike talks about the origins of this song in the introduction, which makes the performance all the more powerful.
Mike and Joe have been hard at work on a new recording, which should be available later in 2024, so keep an eye on their social media and website for more information about great new music from this talented duo!
