Brittany Haas and Chris Thile: “Crow Molly”/“Ship in the Clouds”
Peghead Nation fiddle instructor Brittany Haas and “Live From Here” host Chris Thile play tunes by their hero (and our co-founder) Scott Nygaard, during a show in San Francisco.
For two years, Peghead Nation has been a proud sponsor of Live From Here with Chris Thile, so we were saddened to hear the news this week that the show has been canceled, a victim of the restrictions to gathering and travel associated to Covid19.
One of the recurring segments on Live From Here with Chris Thile was “Fast AF,” which carries the tag lines “Fiddle tunes are safe, therapeutic, and fun. Fast AF’s research shows that fiddle tunes promote heart health, longevity, and ridiculous dancing, so don’t forget to pick a fiddle tune today, and play it fast.”
When Live From Here was performing the show at San Francisco’s Davies Symphony Hall in 2018, Peghead Nation fiddle instructor Brittany Haas chose two tunes she learned from her friend, our co-founder, editor, and guitar instructor Scott Nygaard for the episode’s “Fast AF” segment. It was fun to hear Chris call out Scott as a hero of his and Brittany’s, and to hear them both play the tunes with Ted Poor on drums and Alan Hampton on bass.
Scott recorded this medley of his original tune ”Crow Molly” and his reworking of the traditional tune ”Ship in the Clouds” on his Dreamer’s Waltz album.
