Wes Corbett and George Jackson: “Gold Rush”
Our Contemporary Bluegrass Banjo instructor plays a bluegrass classic with fiddler George Jackson.
Wes Corbett, who teaches Contemporary Bluegrass Banjo on Peghead Nation, plays banjo in the Sam Bush Band, and wears many other musical hats, recently recorded some new lessons for his course, with fiddler George Jackson helping out with the video and audio. While they were recording, the duo took a moment to play the bluegrass classic “Gold Rush.”
As they discuss in the video introduction, George has recently recorded an album of fiddle and banjo duets with seven great banjo players, including Wes. Each banjoist played two tunes with George on the album (called Hair & Hide), one traditional tune, and one original tune written by George with each player’s style in mind. That album is due for release in October, and we can’t wait to hear it! In the meantime, enjoy this bit of fun and great playing from two masters of their instruments.
In Contemporary Bluegrass Banjo with Wes Corbett, Wes teaches intermediate-to-advanced players the style of three-finger banjo used by Béla Fleck, Noam Pikelny, Ron Block, and others. With lessons on single-string and melodic style, fingerboard theory, improvisation, and more.
