Teja Gerken, Doug Young, Stevie Coyle: “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”
A trio of our fingerstyle guitar faculty play a virtuosic arrangement of George Harrison and the Beatles classic.
Peghead Nation co-founder Teja Gerken was joined by his fellow fingerstyle guitarists Doug Young and Stevie Coyle for a virtuosic set during our 10th Anniversary Party and Showcase in San Rafael, California, last month. In this video, they ply 18 strings to George Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” Teja and Doug have a guitar duo that performs regularly and released Duets, an album of their beautiful original compositions along with arrangements of some of their favorite pieces from a wide range of genres. They each gig and record as a solo guitarist as well, and are active members of the global fingerstyle guitar community.
Stevie Coyle owns Mighty Fine Guitars in Lafayette, California, where he matches an impressive inventory of unique, vintage, and contemporary instruments with the people who need to play them! Be sure to check out Stevie’s Facebook livestreams from the shop on Fridays for a glimpse of his offerings. When he’s not moving instruments into the hands of others, he is often playing guitar and singing in his fine duo The Quitters. Stevie was a founding member of the Bay Area band The Waybacks and is an integral part of the current roots music community in San Francisco and the surrounding area. He teaches Peghead Nation’s Fingerstyle Guitar course, which launched when we did, and has been a consistently popular course for the decade.
The Peghead Nation 10th Anniversary Party and Showcase happened in November, at Studio Fourth Street, a beautiful new performance and gathering space in Peghead Nation’s hometown of San Rafael, California. In addition to a fun hang and lots of catching up with students, teachers, family, and friends, the evening featured short performances from the Peghead co-founders and an impressive contingent of instructors. It was a special night of unique collaborations and wonderful performances from many of the folks who have made our first decade possible.
Take a look at the Featured Videos section of Peghead Nation for more great performances from the 10th Anniversary Showcase.
