Scott Nygaard and John Reischman: “Little Liza Jane”
Peghead Nation Co-founder plays an old-time tune with his fellow Harmonic Tone Revealer at our 10th Anniversary Showcase.
Peghead Nation Co-founder Scott Nygaard has played with John Reischman for over three decades, in many different configurations. Around the time we started Peghead Nation, they formed a trio with Sharon Gilchrist and released the stellar Harmonic Tone Revealers album. For our 10th Anniversary Showcase, the three were planning on playing together again, but an emergency meant that Sharon had to miss the evening, and we certainly missed her. But John and Scott did what they do so well, and played a few lovely tunes together, including “Little Liza Jane,” which they recorded on Harmonic Tone Revealers. Both of them teach this tune on Peghead Nation, too – Scott in his Advanced Flatpicking course and John in his Old-Time Mandolin course.
The Peghead Nation 10th Anniversary Party and Showcase happened in November, at Studio Fourth Street, a beautiful new performance and gathering space in Peghead Nation’s hometown of San Rafael, California. In addition to a fun hang and lots of catching up with students, teachers, family, and friends, the evening featured short performances from the Peghead co-founders and an impressive contingent of instructors. It was a special night of unique collaborations and wonderful performances from many of the folks who have made our first decade possible.
Check out our Featured Videos page for more performances from the 10th Anniversary Showcase.
