Sam Bush and Wes Corbett: “Tennessee Wagoner”
Peghead Nation banjo instructor plays a fiddle tune on “Jammin’ With Sam,” with bluegrass and mandolin legend Sam Bush.
In early 2020, Wes Corbett, who teaches Contemporary Bluegrass Banjo on Peghead Nation, joined the Sam Bush Band, adding “banjo player for bluegrass and mandolin legend” to his already stellar resume, which has included playing in the Molly Tuttle Band, Joy Kills Sorrow, the Bee Eaters, his long-running duo with hammer dulcimer master Simon Chrisman, and much more.
Wes also recently released his first solo album, Cascade, which highlights his prodigious composition skills, and includes some of roots music’s finest players, including Sierra Hull, Paul Kowert, Alex Hargreaves, Casey Campbell, and Critter Elderidge (who also produced the album). So Wes has been very busy.
Recently, Wes made a stop in Dr. Bush’s neighborhood as a guest on Jammin with Sam, a recurring video series that features Sam Bush playing with his many friends in the bluegrass and roots community. In this video, Sam picks up the fiddle and plays a great version of “Tennessee Wagoner” with his banjo player.
And in our opinion, Wes chose the perfect wardrobe for this shoot! Nice shirt, Wes!
In Contemporary Bluegrass Banjo with Wes Corbett, Wes teaches intermediate-to-advanced players the style of three-finger banjo used by Béla Fleck, Noam Pikelny, Ron Block, and others. With lessons on single-string and melodic style, fingerboard theory, improvisation, and more.
