Joe K. Walsh with Scott Nygaard, Alisa Rose, and Mark Schatz: “Juneau What it Means to Miss Alaska”
Founding member of Mr Sun plays an original tune with a great crew of his fellow Peghead instructors.
The Peghead Nation 10th Anniversary Party and Showcase happened in November, at Studio Fourth Street, a beautiful new performance and gathering space in Peghead Nation’s hometown of San Rafael, California. In addition to a fun hang and lots of catching up with students, teachers, family, and friends, the evening featured short performances from the Peghead co-founders and an impressive contingent of instructors. It was a special night of unique collaborations and wonderful performances from many of the folks who have made our first decade possible.
Joe K. Walsh is a central pillar of Peghead Nation, with us from the beginning and creating six in-depth mandolin courses throughout the decade. This is in addition to his teaching at Berklee College of Music and maintaining a busy performance, recording, workshop, and camp calendar. You can catch Joe with Mr Sun, his progressive string band with fellow Peghead Grant Gordy, fiddle master Darol Anger, and jazz/roots bassist Aidan O’Donnell, currently on the road performing Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker Suite, an impressive display of the prowess of this ensemble.
At our 10th Anniversary Showcase, Joe enlisted Peghead co-founder Scott Nygaard, our Improvinsing for Fiddlers and Violinists course instructor, Alisa Rose, and bassist Mark Schatz. In this video, they play Joe’s original tune “Juneau What it Means to Miss Alaska.”
