The Peghead Nation 10th Anniversary Party and Showcase happened in November, at Studio Fourth Street, a beautiful new performance and gathering space in Peghead Nation’s hometown of San Rafael, California. In addition to a fun hang and lots of catching up with students, teachers, family, and friends, the evening featured short performances from the Peghead co-founders and an impressive contingent of instructors. It was a special night of unique collaborations and wonderful performances from many of the folks who have made our first decade possible.

Alisa Rose masterfully captures the spirit of whatever style she puts her bow to, whether as a member of the duo Scroggins and Rose (with a new album, Speranza, due in January 2025), the Grammy-nominated Quartet San Francisco, as a U.S. State Department Musical Ambassador, and in many other ensembles. She’s a dedicated educator who teaches our Improvising for Fiddlers and Violinists workshop, and who teaches at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

At our 10th Anniversary Showcase, Alisa enlisted Peghead co-founder Scott Nygaard, mandolinist Jesse Appelman, and bassist Mark Schatz to play tunes including this take of Tim O’Brien’s “The High Road.” Scott and Mark were members of Tim O’Brien’s O’Boys for years, so they’re well-versed in this tune, which Tim originally recorded in 1983 with lyrics.

We’ll have more performances from this night of superb music soon, so keep an eye out for those!
