Shuffle on Home, Part 1: Riff and Rhythm
In this lead guitar lesson, you’ll learn “Shuffle on Home,” a tune that Orville composed in the style of some of the blues guitar instrumentals that were popular in the 1950s and ‘60s. They usually had a swingin’ shuffle rhythm and 12-bar blues chord structure, and so does “Shuffle on Home.” You’ll learn the melody, some solos, a recurring riff, and a rhythm guitar figure. Orville starts by showing you the riff that runs through the whole song. He also shows you the rhythm guitar part he plays for “Shuffle on Home,” which includes a few different chord voicings played on the top three or four strings: a G6 chord and C9 and D9 voicings played with just three notes. You can practice playing the riff and rhythm with Orville’s Rhythm Buddies using the audio Play-Along Track at right.
