Memories of Mother and Dad

Bill Monroe’s 1952 recording of “Memories of Mother and Dad” is pitched in the key of F#, and so there are a few odd notes (open strings) in his solo. Most of the solo is played with the index finger centered at the fourth fret (F# on the D string) and it includes some 32nd-note tremolo passages up the neck, which can be tricky if you’ve never played in F# before. Mike walks you through the intro and solo phrase by phrase, making sure you understand the F# positions and explaining the odd notes in Monroe’s solo.
