Each year, roots musicians gather in Sorrento, BC, Canada for two weeks of instruction, jamming, concerts, and musical fun at NimbleFingers Bluegrass and Old-Time Workshops and Festival. Held at the beautiful Sorrento Centre, NimbleFingers Workshops offer an inviting, noncompetitive environment for beginning-to-advanced students of guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, bass, dobro, vocals, and whatever else you can add into the roots music we all love.
Joining the talented NimbleFingers teaching staff during Week 1 (August 21–26, 2016) is Peghead Nation Clawhammer Banjo instructor Evie Ladin. You know that Evie is multi-talented, with her recent album Jump the Fire showing off her banjo, songwriting, singing, and dance/percussion skills. At NimbleFingers, Evie will teach folks how to blend their voices in her Old-Time Harmony Singing workshop. She’ll use Carter Family songs as a place to start, and teach students to listen for and find singing parts in this beautiful style.
Among the impressive line-up of instructors joining Evie during NimbleFingers Week 1 are John Reischman on mandolin, Chris Coole and Wesley Corbett on banjo, Molly Tuttle on guitar, and John Mailander on fiddle.
And Peghead Nation's popular Old-Time Fiddle instructor Bruce Molsky will be on hand during NimbleFingers Week 2 (August 28–September 2), teaching his Advanced Old-Time Fiddle workshop. Bruce has been touring extensively, performing both solo (on fiddle, banjo, guitar, and vocals) and with his new trio with Allison de Groot and Stash Wyslouch called Molsky Mountain Drifters, who are releasing their first album this fall.
Other instructors during Week 2 include Chris Coole and Allison de Groot on banjo, Tyler Andal and John Snowman on fiddle, Steve Roy and Roger Ferguson on guitar, and many others.
In addition to teaching at NimbleFingers Workshops, Bruce and Allison will play during the NimbleFingers Festival on August 27. Also on that loaded bill are the Molly Tuttle Band, John Reischman and the Taterbugs, the Lonesome Ace Stringband, the Railsplitters, and more. Get your tickets for the festival here.
Make your way to BC for NimbleFingers, and say hello to your Peghead Nation pals while you’re there making great music and soaking up the inspiration!
