For the past three years in September, Peghead Nation's Monroe-Style Mandolin instructor Mike Compton has hosted the Monroe Mandolin Camp in Nashville, Tennessee, offering students a weekend full of instruction, concerts, jams, and immersion in the world of traditional bluegrass created by Bill Monroe.
Mandolin instruction will be presented by Mike Compton and Peghead Nation instructor Sharon Gilchrist, as well as Skip Gorman, Adam Tanner, Lauren Price, and others, and will include instruction in old-time mandolin in addition to traditional bluegrass. This year, Rich del Grosso will also present classes on blues playing on the mandolin, a major component of Bill Monroe's music.
Building on the success of last year's camp, MonManCamp is also offering a traditional bluegrass banjo track taught by the great Alan O'Bryant. This intimate series of classes is for intermediate players and will focus on the banjo's place in Bill Monroe's band, Earl Scruggs' revolutionary style, and more.
And new for 2017 is a fiddle track, led by the great Buddy Spicher, Glen Duncan, and Brian Christianson.
