Every February in Seattle, thousands of acoustic musicians and fans gather for the three-day Wintergrass Music Festival, this year scheduled for February 25 – 28. Peghead Nation will be on hand at the Hyatt Regency to take in the music-packed weekend of old-time, bluegrass, and roots performances, instructional workshops and intensives, and non-stop jamming.
Among the amazing lineup of official Wintergrass performers are two Peghead Nation teachers. Our Monroe-Style Mandolin instructor Mike Compton will play with his string band Helen Highwater on Saturday. The band also includes David Grier on guitar, Missy Raines on bass, and Shad Cobb on fiddle.
In addition to the concerts and the opportunities for informal jamming, Wintergrass also features over 80 instrument workshops as well as Wintergrass Intensives, which allow intermediate-to-advanced students to study with some of today's most sought-after instructors and performers. Evie Ladin will be dispensing old-time banjo knowledge in a clawhammer banjo intensive on Thursday, February 26.
Other Wintergrass Intensives instructors include fiddler John Mailander (who was recently a guest on Peghead Nation's Fiddle Styles Workshop with Brittany Haas), the Punch Brothers' Noam Pikelny, members of The Steel Wheels, and many others. Watch the Wintergrass website for updates to the lineup.
Peghead Nation is a proud Wintergrass sponsor and we look forward to meeting many of you in Seattle. Make plans to attend Wintergrass!
