Guitar Bliss at the Fretboard Summit, Nov. 6 - 8
Peghead Nation will present hours of guitar instruction at the Fretboard Summit, celebrating 10 years of the Fretboard Journal with some of the best guitar builders and players in the world.

We’re excited to announce that we are proud partners for the first-ever Fretboard Summit, November 6 - 8, 2015 at the Costanoa Resort in the Bay Area! It’s going to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to interact with some of the best guitar builders and players in the world, and we hope to see you there.
Performers include David Crosby, Bill Frisell, Bryan Sutton, Chris Eldridge & Julian Lage, Matt Munisteri, Joe Henry, Blake Mills, and more. Plus Bill Collings, Richard Hoover, Dick Boak (Martin), Mark Stutman of Folkway Music, Richard Johnston (Gryphon), Jim Baggett (Mass Street Music) and many others will be speaking. Peghead Nation with be on hand with in-depth, interactive guitar workshops throughout the weekend, so you can pick up new fingerstyle, flatpicking, and composing skills in the midst of all of this guitar-related fun.
Here's the schedule of workshops that we'll be offering to all attendees of the Summit:
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6
12:00 - 1:00 PM
Intro to Alternate Tunings with Teja Gerken
From dropped-D to DADGAD and beyond, you’ll learn the basics of alternate tunings, with examples of tunes and techniques that expand your creative possibilities and break you out of old patterns on the guitar.
1:00 - 2:00 PM
The Art of the Flatpick with Scott Nygaard
Using a traditional fiddle tune (or two) and its accompaniment, explore the gamut of flatpicking techniques, with an emphasis on the three Ts: Tone, Timing, and Tunefulness. You’ll learn about alternate (down/up) picking, rest strokes, and how to address the challenges of string skipping, different rhythms, slurs, and more.

Fingerstyle Jazz with Eric Skye
Learn to use jazz concepts for improvisation in jazz, blues, and other styles of music. Emphasis will be on tone production, left- and right-hand technique, listening, and playing in time. Eric will deconstruct a few standard tunes and talk about how he approaches them from the perspective of an improviser and arranger.

Guitar Harmony with Mark Goldenberg
Explore chord inversions and scales all over the neck, harmonic theory and useful applications, and much more with one of the most respected touring and session guitarists around.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7

Contemporary Fingerstyle Techniques with Teja Gerken
Today’s fingerstyle guitarists employ techniques like slapping and tapping, partial capos, creative use of harmonics, and much more. Teja Gerken introduces and demonstrates some of these techniques and shows you how to incorporate them into your playing.

Travis-Style Fingerpicking with Stevie Coyle
Learn the basics of Travis-style guitar and how to to turn your thumb into a mindless groove machine. With examples from classic fingerpicking tunes and how to find new chord voicings using the C-A-G-E-D system of learning the fingerboard.
2:00 - 3:00 PM
Fingerboard Explorations with Scott Nygaard
Learn how to start exploring the entire neck of the guitar, with some handy up-the-neck scale positions. You’ll learn scales, melodic patterns, chords, and melodies in a few positions and keys up the neck, with ideas on how to move smoothly between them and open position.
3:00 - 4:00 PM
Fingerstyle Guitar Duets with Mark Goldenberg and Eric Skye
These fingerstyle jazz, blues, and pop masters demonstrate and talk about how they approach playing in a duet with another guitarist. With ideas on arranging, listening, and improvising in a two-guitar format.
