Every February in Seattle, thousands of acoustic musicians and fans gather for the three-day Wintergrass Music Festival, happening this year on February 20 – 23. Peghead Nation will be on hand at the Hyatt Regency, taking in the music-packed weekend of old-time, bluegrass, and roots performances, instructional workshops and intensives, and nonstop jamming.
This year’s theme is “Bluegrass Without Borders,” and the lineup of official Wintergrass performers will include roots musicians from around the globe. Starting relatively close to home, festival-goers will be treated to sets by Peghead Nation’s Melodic Mandolin Tunes instructor John Reischman, with his band the Jaybirds. Also performing are Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn, Darrell Scott, We Banjo Three, the Kruger Brothers, Väsen, I Draw Slow, and many others.
In addition to the concerts and the opportunities for informal jamming, Wintergrass also features over 80 instrument workshops as well as Wintergrass Intensives, which allow intermediate-to-advanced students to study with some of today's most sought-after instructors and performers.
John Reischman will be teaching a Wintergrass Intensive in mandolin, and Kate Lee and Forrest O’Connor (Mark O’Connor Band) will be teaching a voice and guitar intenstive. Instructors also include songwriter Darrell Scott, Väsen’s Olov Johansson teaching a nyckelharpa workshop, Patrick Sauber teaching a banjo class, and others. Tjhis is a great opportunity for personal study with some of roots music’s leading performers and instructors. Watch the Wintergrass website for updates to the lineup.
Peghead Nation is a proud Wintergrass sponsor and we look forward to meeting many of you in Seattle. Make plans to attend Wintergrass!
