David Grisman, the influential mandolinist, creative genius behind Dawg music, and founder of the Acoustic Disc label turned 70 on March 23, and the acoustic music world is celebrating his many contributions. Check out the thread on Mandolin Cafe to read an outpouring of appreciation from dozens of notable musicians relating their thoughts about Grisman and all he's done for the world of acoustic music.
And he continues to burn on, as this video from the FreshGrass Festival shows. Here, the David Grisman Sextet plays "Pigeon Roost" at FreshGrass. You'll note that Chad Manning, Peghead Nation's Beginning/Intermediate Fiddle and Bluegrass Fiddle instructor, starts this tune on mandolin with David, then switches to fiddle just in time for a beautiful solo.
Happy 70th, David Grisman, and here's to many happy returns!
