Evans Family June 2014.jpegAn amazing line-up of bluegrass, old-time, and roots musicians are headed to the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, California on September 2 to help out their friends, Peghead Nation's popular banjo instructor Bill Evans, his wife Kathy, and their children Corey and Jesse. Kathy has been fighting a rare form of leukemia for the past two years, and treatments have included two bone marrow transplants and other aggressive, expensive measures.

On Friday, September 2 at 6pm, the Freight and Salvage will host the Bill and Kathy Evans Family Benefit Concert featuring modern bluegrass favorites Hot Buttered Rum with special guest James Nash, Bill's trio with flatpicking ace Dan Crary and songwriter Steve Spurgin, and Bill playing with his banjo compatriot, the great Alan Munde. Also on the bill are Jody Stecher and Kate Brislin, Peghead Nation instructors SharBillEvans Benefit Concert.jpgon Gilchrist and Scott Nygaard, Steep Ravine, Eric Thompson, and many others. Proceeds from the evening will be donated to the Evans' family to help offset mounting medical costs. Get your tickets here.

The Freight and Salvage is also accepting online donations for the Evans family. Just go to the Freight's Membership and Donations page and be sure to check the box at the bottom of the form that reads “for the Bill and Kathy Evans benefit.”

Peghead Nation joins the rest of the banjo and bluegrass community in wishing Kathy, Bill, Corey, and Jesse a rapid return to great health and a respite from the recent difficult road they've been traveling. We'll see you at the Freight.

A great mandolin duet of Sarah Jarosz’s original tune, recorded live at the Marshall Mandolin Summit.
