The 2017 Santa Barbara Acoustic Instrument Celebration (SBAIC) is happy to announce that Peghead Nation instructors Teja Gerken and Tony McManus, along with Advanced Fingerstyle Workshop contributors Mark Hanson, Sean McGowan, Richard Smith, and Tim Sparks will be part of the workshops for this summer’s second installment of the SBAIC. Workshops will also be offered by Michael Chapdelaine, Ken Emerson, Kinloch Nelson, Kenny Sultan, Jim West, and Doug Young.

Relocated to the Fess Parker hotel in Santa Barbara, California, from August 25 to 27, 2017, SBAIC 17 will feature exhibits of a wide variety of luthier-made instruments throughout this compact beachside resort. A centerpiece of the weekend will be the Heritage Exhibit, tracing the history of stringed instruments from 500 BC China to contemporary instruments, with a series of educational seminars by lutherie icons Richard Hoover, Ervin Somogyi, Harry Fleishman, Chuck Erikson, Harvey Leach, and Charles Fox.

The weekend will also include on-site instrument demos and mini-concerts by SBAIC musicians and teachers, and concerts in nearby venues after show hours. These concerts will kick off with a two-part show at SOhO Restaurant and Music Club on the Thursday evening of the festival, starting with a Guitar Summit featuring Kinloch Nelson, Sean McGowan, and Michael Chapdelaine, and continuing with a Dueling Guitars show by Richard Smith and Tim Sparks. On Friday night, Chapdelaine and Tony McManus will present a Classical Outlaws concert at Center Stage, and on Saturday, Teja Gerken, Mark Hanson, and Doug Young are playing a dinner show at SOhO, and slide guitar legend David Lindley will headline at the Lobero Theatre.

VIP ticket buyers have the first opportunity to purchase discount rooms at the venue, admission to workshops, advance discount tickets for evening shows, and private showings and demos scheduled on request. See for more information.
