Mike Compton’s Monroe-Style Mandolin course is now live on Peghead Nation, and here's Mike playing the Bill Monroe instrumental, “The Old Mountaineer.” The tune highlights many of the Monroe-influenced bluegrass mandolin techniques that Mike focuses on in his course—double stops, slides, and incorporating melody playing into common chord shapes. You can find a recording of the tune on the Mike Compton and David Long album Stomp.

I saw Mike play this past Saturday with Grammy award winning fiddler Bobby Hicks. Bobby, a Bluegrass Boy himself, said Mike sounds just like Bill Monroe. Mike is awesome!
